Punjabi, Marwari & South Indian Bridal Looks — A Regional Guide

India is not one wedding — it is a hundred. Each region has its own bridal aesthetic, its own jewellery traditions, its own way of draping the [bridal lehenga](/wedding/bridal-lehenga). Here is our regional guide.

    Punjabi Bride

Palette: Deep red, maroon, fuchsia pink, with heavy gold embroidery.

Silhouette: Heavy ghagra-style lehenga with full circumference. Often paired with a heavily embroidered dupatta worn as a *chunni* over the head.

Jewellery: Kaleerey on the wrist, heavy *maang tikka*, *nath* (nose ring), layered *ranihaar*.

Fabric: [Velvet lehengas](/category/velvet-lehenga) for winter Anand Karaj ceremonies; raw silk and Banarasi for daytime functions.

Signature touch: Phulkari dupatta for the *chooda* ceremony.

    Marwari & Rajasthani Bride

Palette: Bright red and pink with intricate gota patti and bandhani patterns.

Silhouette: Traditional poshak — lehenga with kurti-style choli and odhna draped from head to waist. Modern Marwari brides often choose a fusion lehenga with traditional draping.

Jewellery: *Borla* on the forehead, *aad* (collar necklace), *rakhdi*, heavy *baajubandh*.

Fabric: Bandhani silk, leheriya, gota patti work on lightweight silk.

Signature touch: Mehendi-rich aesthetic — both on hands and outfit.

South Indian Bride (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayali)

Palette: Deep red, maroon, burgundy with rich gold zari work.

Silhouette: Traditionally a Kanjivaram silk saree, but modern South Indian brides increasingly choose [Kanjivaram silk lehengas](/category/silk-lehenga) for ease of movement.

Jewellery: Temple jewellery — *vaddanam* (waist belt), *jadanagam* (hair braid), *oddiyanam*, multiple gold layered necklaces.

Fabric: Pure Kanjivaram silk with temple borders and contrast pallu.

Signature touch: Jasmine *gajra* in the hair.

    Bengali Bride

Palette: Red and white — *Banarasi* saree with traditional *sindoor* tika.

Jewellery: *Mukut* (crown), *nath*, *shankha-pola* bangles.

    Maharashtrian Bride

Palette: Yellow, green, or red Paithani saree with traditional border.

Jewellery: *Nath* (distinctive crescent nose ring), *mundavalya*, *kolhapuri saaj*.

    Gujarati Bride

Palette: Red, white, and green with bandhani panetar saree or modern lehenga.

Drape: Gujarati seedha pallu — pallu over the right shoulder, falling at the front.

    Kashmiri Bride

Palette: Red and gold with Pashmina shawl and *tilla* embroidery.

Jewellery: *Kasaba* (head ornament), heavy gold and pearl jewellery.

    Designing a Cross-Regional Look

Many modern brides have inter-regional weddings. We design lehengas that respectfully blend traditions — for instance, a Kanjivaram silk lehenga with Punjabi-style heavy gold embroidery, or a Marwari poshak silhouette in pastel for a fusion couple.
